Water Splashing Festival

The Water Splashing Festival, New Year's Day by Dai calendar, will be celebrated in the Jinghong City Proper between April 12 and 18. The grandest festival of the Dai is usually held along with activities such as Dragon Boat racing, sending off skyrockets, and throwing love pouches. It is believed that everyone being splashed at will have good luck.

Water-splashing festival is a traditional festival of Dai minority in Yunnan. The festival originates form a legend relating about seven nice girls killing the monster. In Dai minority, the water serves as the symbol of sanctity and brightness.

The highlights of the festival include water-splashing carnival, dragon boat racing, cockfighting, ethnic performance.
