Social websites logos

I wonder what the most popular social media tools & web apps are in China and how they differ from, say, the U.S.?

There are a lot of social media websites in China, but most of them are not very good, they all were copied from Alexa Top1000. The other word, if there is a new website successful in Alexa, you will find another “Chinese version” in few days.

There are 5 good social media in my option:

1. Websites: http://www.xiaonei.com/

Xiaonei likes facebook, you have to use realname to register it, the users of xiaonei are mainly of the students and IT workers.

2. Websites: http://www.taotao.com/

Taotao likes twitter, taotao is developped by QQ company, there a lot of spam messages are created there.

3. Websites: http://hi.baidu.com/

HiBaidu likes MySpace, it is high speed and supports many custom-templates, I like this social apps very much.

4. Websites: http://www.zhuaxia.com/

Zhuaxia likes Google Reader plus Digg, you can share and digg the articles, and read the others’ recommendations.

5. Websites: http://www.douban.com/

Douban likes… I don’t know what is it likes, douban is a social website that let users share the book-reviews and movie-reviews.

Hi there,

it’s pretty interesting to see what kind of social media sites are popular in china. Well actually the same types of social media sites are popular in eastern countries but - of course - they differ in language. It’s too bad that we have this big obstacle, the language barrier, that still “blocks” the communication between western and eastern countries somehow.

Yes, it’s way easier to communicate with people in your first language. I can see that here in germany, too. People are using a facebook ripoff here and it’s very popular. I don’t have much experience with facebook, but the the german clone here is all about connecting with friends you already have. It’s not really about making new, maybe international friends. So it’s already hard to connect to people that you don’t already know.

I think don’t have enough knowledge when talking about other social media sites. Maybe it’s completely different on other sites and it’s easier to connect to people around the world.
Are there any other social media sites that are more international?

By the way, your site is an exception here and I like really like it a lot as we can get a small insight of what your country / culture is about and what’s going on on your side of the planet ;-)

So, thank you for blogging in english, because I can’t read the chinese symbols. I wish I could!

So thanks and keep blogging!

Sven
