The elementary grade curriculum

February 26th, 2008 | 6 Comments »

Someone says that we Chinese are clever, Chinese overseas usually gained full marks in the examination, I don’t agree full marks equals clever, I think clever means the comprehensive ability.

List of pupil

The most Chinese believe examination is most important for students, so Chinese pupil lack of physical exercise in the school often.

I asked my little brother for his sixth-grade curriculum, there has three sport classes per week, two music classes per week, and only one art class per week.

Chinese pupil lack of physical exercise in the school.

Look at the curriculum, the classes of Chinese, English and Math are the major classes everyday, my little brother just a kid, he should be filled with sports, music and arts in his life. How painful it is.

Another suprise is the Polity Class, pupil, can little boy (ten or thirteen years old) understand what is polity? Why there is no history and geography of our motherland, but two polity classes per week, I am afraid I can not accept that true.

Do you want to know your Chinese zodiac? Here is a tool to help you find your Chinese zodiac. Click here to find out your Chinese zodiac now.

I blogged The 12 Chinese zodiac animals and got a lot of questions about it. So I am blogging the part II of the 12 Chinese zodiac animals.

Rat year of Chinese zodiac

The Chinese zodiac follows the Chinese calendar, the switch over date is the Chinese New Year, not January 1 as in the Gregorian calendar. Therefore, a person who was born in January or early February has the sign of the previous year.

For example, if a person was born in January 1970, his or her element would still be Yin Earth, not Yang Metal.

Similarly, although 1990 was called the year of the horse, anyone born from January 1 to January 26, 1990 was in fact born in the Year of the Snake (the sign of the previous year), because the 1990 Year of the Horse did not begin until January 27, 1990.

For this reason, many online sign calculators (and Chinese restaurant place mats) will give a person the wrong sign if he/she was born in January or early February.

The start of a new Zodiac is also celebrated on Chinese New Year along with many other customs.

Edible viscera of animals

February 20th, 2008 | No Comments »

Viscera and trimmings of a butchered animal often considered inedible by humans. But in fact, they are very delicious, I like them very much.

In China, a lot of snacks are made in the viscera, for examples, Quick-Fried Tripe, Fried Liver, etc.

The duck liver and sheep viscera are two delicious too, people would like relish them and drink firewater in winter.

Duck Liver: The geese or ducks are forced-fed until their livers expended to 20 times their normal size. Many of them died during forced feeding.

It is a very cruel way of obtaining the livers of these animals.

Sheep Viscera: Sheep’s intestines, liver and the other viscera with soy sauce, mashed garlic, starch, aniseed etc as seasonings. These foods really delicious and expensive.

The current situation of China network bandwidth

February 20th, 2008 | 2 Comments »

Last weekend I looked up L.Jianyong, we were roommates when we were students in the university. He is post graduate student in Beijing University of Chemical Technology.

The current situation of China network bandwidth

We talked a long time, because it is donkey’s years since we have seen each other. Then, jianyong asked my blog, I opened computer and run FireFox, typed the URL… I found the blog can not be opened.

Night, I search about the survey of China Internet network bandwidth, the study surprised me:

There are 5 major internet service providers, China Telecom and CNC are most commonly used of all, CERNET for special educational institutions. CMCC and China unicom specially serviced for mobile devices. Their network bandwidth are:

- China Telecommunications Corporation (China Telecom): 135,321MB
- China Netcom Group Corporation (CNC): 89,665MB
- China Education and Research Network (CERNET): 4,796MB
- China Mobile (CMCC): 5,750MB
- China unicom 3,652MB

So, it’s not difficult to understand that why I can’t open my blog in the university.
