Do not buy any curio if you come to China

May 2nd, 2008 | No Comments »

There are more and more foreigners come to China, they like buy Chinese characteristics as gifts for their family members and friends.

China cultural relics and curios are the most popular goods to them, but if you do not want to become a stupid person, I will not advise you to buy these old toys. Anyhow there’s nothing really old here.

There are a lot of curio shops around the Chang an Avenue, things in these shops are very expensive, we Chinese never shopping there, they do not fossick for Chinese clients too.

These curio shops fossick for foreigner clients mainly, they can get a very large profit in the deals.

Now, it wants less than 100 days to the Olympic Games, more and more foreigners come to China from all the world. The curio shops are preparing price hikes for exorbitant profits. So if you come to China, you muse beware when u are shopping.

So, what are the best gifts buy from China? I think Chinese Knot, The toys of 12 Chinese zodiac animals, Pu-erh Tea, Beijing snacks and Chinese Scented tea are all nice choices.

Temporary Residential Permission

April 5th, 2008 | No Comments »

Beijing is a modern city, there are many skyscrapers in the city. These buildings were built by the builders who came from the other places in the country.

So, we have to thanks them. But there is a discriminational permission for them - Temporary Residential Permission.

If someone is Chinese, but he was not born in Beijing, he have to apply for a temporary residential certificate first if he work in Beijing.

A temporary residence permit valid for one year, apply for it again when it expired. The workers whom from other places in the country have to carry the temporary residence permit in their pocket.

If they use the expired documents, they will be punished for 50.00 RMB fine. In serious cases will be ordered to leave Beijing.

Why is discriminatory? Because it is not essential for the people from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Shenzhen or Shanghai, but it is necessary for the people from Anhui, Dongbei and the other backward cities.

During the Olympic Games, no temporary resident permits people will be mandatory away from Beijing.

One dollar for 7 CN domain names

April 1st, 2008 | 1 Comment »

What is the price of a CN domain name? 6.99 dollars? 2.99 dollars? 1 dollars? No, the answer is 14 cents per CN domain name.

China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), the country’s domain name administrator, announced that the first-year registration fee for CN domain names will be one yuan.

One yuan means 1.00RMB. One dollar equals 7.3452RMB these days, so you can register 7 CN domain names in one dollar. I think it is not a good news. Because the cheapper, the more spam websites are created.

At the end of 2006, China had 1.8 million websites that ended in “.CN”, up 64.4 percent from the year previous. The “.CN” suffix is Asia’s largest and the world’s fourth-largest, statistics from the CNNIC show.

The 1 yuan sale promotion plan continues, and the spam websites that ended in “.CN” are produced too, when is the crazy plan going to stop and do an honest work?

DualView is a better way for players

March 26th, 2008 | 2 Comments »

I like use computer in two screens, it is really a better and easier way to do my work. I found the programmers of Microsoft recommend this tip too.

Give someone a second monitor, let them use it for while, and then try to take it away. It just isn’t going to happen. They’ll never go back to a mono display. Researchers found that increasing a computer user’s display space made it easier for them to complete their tasks.

Last week, I went to my friend’s office, and found they all used two screens in their work desk, they are all programmers too. Why we like two screens? What are its advantages?

“The interesting thing is that they try to get it right. We found that memory capability is considerably improved on a big display over a small display. There’s something about engaging the peripheral vision that improves your spatial memory of what has gone on,” said Starkweather.

Expand your workspace with multiple monitors listed three advantages:

1. E-mail and instant messaging. Work on one monitor, and keep your e-mail and instant messaging clients open on the other so you don’t have to switch between windows when a new message arrives;

2. Research online. Open a Web browser or other research tool on one monitor, and have a Microsoft Office program open on the second monitor for note-taking;

3. Browse and edit digital pictures. Quickly browse your digital images by displaying thumbnails on one monitor and full-sized previews on the other.

Acturally, there are many advantages in DualView, you do not know how convenient it is to be unless you have be used before.

Expand your workspace with multiple monitors contains the steps of how to expand workspace with multiple monitors.
