Movie Review: The Assembly

This entry was posted on Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008.

The Assembly (Ji Jie Hao) is still screening in China, it is directed by Feng Xiaogang who is one of the China’s most popular film directors, and it is a drama about war and closure from the 1940s to the present.

The film has attracted much attention from the Chinese film industry for its depiction of heroic deeds. Many filmgoers have left theaters with tears rolling down their cheeks, a phenomenon rarely seen in the country in recent years.

Assembly

Media news reported Assembly was a roaring success at the box office, the film have snatched the box office title with total earnings of more than 235 million Yuan, or nearly 32 million US dollars.

Meanwhile, I don’t like this movie, yeah, I think this is not a really war movie, it is not a dollop of truth to the story. In the movie, the soldier’s act and clothe is not like the People’s Liberation Army. Their act looks like the United States Army Special Forces, and their clothes (for example, the helmets) looks like the Chiang Kai-shek’s army.

In a word, the soldier in the Assembly don’t like the People’s Liberation Army (the New Fourth Army), in the course of the war, China People’s Liberation Army not having the advanced weapons.
