This entry was posted on Monday, November 26th, 2007.

Amit posted a short video on his blog, How Chinese Students Are Learning the English Language, this video is interesting and crazy, of course, it is really true in China. This method be invented by Lee Yang, who is an English language teacher, he named the method Crazy English.

What (and why) is the Crazy English?

Mr.Lee believes read out the English is the best way to learning English, so he take his students in large groups and shout (pronounce English words) together, this helps them overcome their shyness (everybody is doing it, so nobody is embarrassed).

I think this crazy may help a little, but I never tried it, that's stupid idiot :D

English learning is the most important for Chinese students, we learn English since primary school, and if you failed in CET4 you should not finish the college course. CET4 means the leval 4 of English Skill.

English is important for Chinese students, they spend a lot of time on English Learning, there are many English Learning School in commercial, they boast of their new methods of teaching, formal methods of teaching are going out fast, and new ones are coming in all the time. Of course, you have to pay a lot of money for these.

So, you see, Crazy English is one of these methods.

The ONLY way to REALLY learn English is to actually use it with native speakers.
Trying to learn English without actually talking to someone is like trying
to learn kung-fu by watching Bruce Lee movies. It’s almost impossible.

You need someone to practice with, or else you can’t learn much. As a Malaysian Chinese, most of us go to English tuition school (extra paid classes which is not in school) to polish our English language.

There is no specific way to learn any language. We may not agree with some ways, but they may be quite effective too.

Hi Shang,

Speaking the words out loud allows you to get used to the sound of the word and its length, so you don’t stumble on it or mumble when you use it in conversation. Like the word “INFRASTRUCTURE”, if you are not practiced in expressing it loud, it may come out as INFRSRSTUTURE; you stumble on it. Read simple English books or books on conversational English, then practice with someone else. Ezample:

You: Hello, My name is Shang
Her: Hi, My name is Nancy

I agree with frayin, I think there is a unique way for each person. One has to find the method that works best for themselves. Great post!

English is, for lack of a better word … broken. It is an extremely difficult language to learn with many stupid rules.

For instance, when to use ‘a’ or ‘an’ ? If the word following the connector starts with a vowel (A E I O or U, sometimes Y), you should use ‘an’.. for example :

Today I bought ‘a’ car.
Today I bought ‘an’ elephant.

The best way to learn English is through conversation where the other party constantly (and patiently) corrects your syntax.

I want to learn more about Chinese history and culture, so if anyone in China wants to converse in English with lessons, my e-mail is tinkertim@gmail.com. I’ll trade editing and instruction for history lessons, happily :)
