A Nation of Clone

This entry was posted on Sunday, December 9th, 2007.

There are 6 movies, three of them made in USA, and the others made in China, if you compare them, you will find there are a lot of similarities.

Look at the picture, first line, the name of movies from left to right are: 24 Hours, Growing Pain, Prison Break; These made in USA.

The second line, the name of them from left to right are: 24 Hours, Children in Family, YuanDong Prison; These movies made in China.

OK, now let me compare them in a list:

1. 24 Hours VS 24 Hours:

  • They have the same name;
  • They have similar animation;
  • No, I haven't watched the Chinese version yet;

2. Growing Pain VS Children in Family:

  • The same family members, dad, mom, two son and one dauther;
  • The enlightened dad and unruly son;
  • The sitcom comedy, serval seasons;

3. Prison Break VS YuanDong Prison:

  • The same start-music;
  • The roles try to break out of jail;
  • YuanDong Prison's slogan is "Prison Break - Chinese Version";

How do you think about it?

SHAME!

A lot of TV shows and movies are just new forms of old shows/movies, but usually with a twist of some sort. However, China seems to all out copy successful American shows and movies — as well as American products. There seems to be little respect towards original work in China — especially from America.

who is copying whom isn’t always obvious.

Stories are old as the world–only the setting changes, little details.
Who cares? if the music written for one movie ends up in another movie as well,
as it is often the case, e.g. Borat’s comedy picked up its music from the well-known Time of the Gypsies.

Escape from Jail! Ha! ha!
A family whose son is unruly! Ha! ha!
Very basic plots indeed.

I don’t know about the Chinese movies so well,
but most of what comes out of Hollywood is a copy of something else.
How could it be otherwise? a) The Hollywood bosses don’t want to be risking their money
on a story too new, and b) industrial movie making isn’t afraid of copying.

one writer wrote (I can’t remember his name)
“The amateur artists tries to copy his favorite writer;
the professional (or accomplished) artist knows how to steal.”

or as Einstein said,
“The secret to being a genius is to hide your sources well.”

hen hao, good post!

I agree with ur point r.i.d,
